I wish to listen to my Ham Radio Tranciever (Yaesu FT-847) through my PC Sound Card?
My sound card is a Creative labs sound blaster live usb external 24 bit connected to a desktop pc running XP pro and creative labs 5.1 speakers
There are a couple of ways to do that. The easiest way is to simply feed the receive audio (e.g., from the headphone jack) to a line-level input of the sound card, with the volume set low enough to approximate a line-level signal. Some sound cards have an input jack that can be configured as either a line-level input or a mic-level input, so configure it accordingly.
A much more impressive way to connect a ham radio transceiver to a sound card is to tap an intermediate frequency (IF) of your radio and feed it to a Softrock software defined radio (SDR), which feeds magnitude (I) and phase (Q) information to the sound card. SDR software, such as Rocky or PowerSDR is used to interpret the I and Q signals. The SDR software can produce spectral displays, waterfall displays, and demodulate digital modes, such as PSK31, as well as demodulating audio, so you'd get vastly more information than just the sound from the particular signal to which you're tuned.
